Marilyn Monroe

Shrimpton Style

Tonight, on BBC4, sees the biopic about Jean Shrimpton and David Bailey's relationship during the sixties.
Not only a true Sixties style icon, Jean Shrimpton has been credited with some monumental fashion firsts - she has been dubbed one of the first supermodels, one of the first to launch the mini skirt and one of David Bailey's first muses.
The pair worked together for a mere four years but had a very strong working relationship and created endless iconic images.

Mirror, Mirror...

2012 will see the launch of two Snow White based films. The first, Mirror, Mirror, is from Relativity Media and due for launch in March. With Julia Roberts brilliantly cast as the Evil Queen and described by director Tarsem Singh as "not evil, but rather insecure", it is set to be a comedy-drama-adventure not to be missed!

Elsewhere in Hollywood, Universal is working on the second release, Snow White and the Huntsman. Starring Charlize Theron as the youthful evil queen and Kristen Stewart taking centre stage as Snow White, this adaptation is set to be more focussed on the princess' relationship with her intended executioner.

Mirror, mirror, on the wall, who will be the fairest film of them all...

Inconspicuous Luxury

The launch of a catwalk collection is a daunting task even for those experienced design houses so imagine the hair-pulling and nail-biting over at Berluti headquarters as they geared up for their first ever collection. It was presented during the Menswear Fashion Week in Paris this season. I say presented because there was no catwalk, no moody teenage models and a unique chance to inspect the garments in an up-close-and-personal setting. The models, aged between 25 and 72, sat or stood still, playing chess, chatting or reading. A breath of fresh air in the sometimes pretentious world of fashion.

The launch was accompanied by a low key photoshoot. My favourites of which are below. I love the old English gentlemen feel with the waistcoats, fedoras and draping overcoats. Think Downtown Abbey meets Tim Burton!

Expensive? The clothes most certainly will be when the line is rolled out in Berluti's retail network, which is to be doubled in size to about 70 outlets this year and will include an in-house Berluti shop in Harrods.

Type-tastic

I love these creative type faces by ILOVEDUST. The animal one below is my favourite. I love the colour scheme and the innovative use of animal shapes and names.

This guardian guide cover is also one of my favourites with it's vibrant colours and retro fonts.

B-side Brief

So yesterday saw the start of our new projects at uni. The first to be given out is called Professional Communication and concentrates on fashion PR and how a brand is perceived.
Our brief is to come up with a marketing and/or promotional strategy to heighten the brand awareness of fashion retailer 'B-side By Wale'. They are an urban menswear brand whose t-shirts can be seen adorning the backs of celebrities such as Tinie Tempah, Example and Bruno Mars. Draper's describes them as having "streetwear credentials..now underpinned with a contemporary aesthetic".
I'm excited to get my teeth into this project and what I've seen of B-side so far seems rather exciting...

Suit Up!

Menswear was given a youthful twist by Stefano Pilati for YSL's autumn/winter 2012-13 collection complete with leather trimmings, a purely black and white colour palette and contrasting textures.

Whilst scrolling through Vogue's Best Dressed Of the Week, someone who popped up more than once was Charlize Theron, and for good reason. My favourite by far is this gorgeous couture gown by Dior.

Show Stopping Saab

When it comes to show stealing gowns, Elie Saab really knows how to wow the crowds at fashion week. His latest collection did not disappoint with a rainbow of colours and a flawless, fluid silhouette. Saab is a self-taught talent and embodies femininity working with fine materials, delicate embroideries and all with outstanding quality.

Portrait Photography

For my last project at uni, I decided to include some simple but highly contrasted portrait photographs of my models. These three are my favourite...

Holme Sweet Holme

To be honest, if it's by Mulberry, there's a solid guarantee I'm going to love it and the geniuses behind their over-the-top, eccentric advertising campaigns, House and Holme are back and on top form. For the spring-summer ads captured by master of the giant prop, Tim Walker, Emma Hill was inspired by her childhood, seaside holidays; caravans, donkey rides and sticks of rock galore.
